The barbeque season has begun

This photo shows a group of first year students infringing the byelaws by having a barbeque on Hanover Square this afternoon. The smoke from it could be smelt on the other side of the square.

They told me they were unaware that barbeques are illegal in Leeds’ parks and added that they would not have lit the barbeque had there been signs at the entrance to the square advising that barbeques are prohibited.

One of them claimed that what they were doing was harmless, and that instead of speaking to them, I should be speaking to the people who use the square for drug taking.

Litter louts on Hanover Square

This afternoon, Hanover Square was full of young people, drawn there by the warm weather and by the square’s beauty. Unfortunately, many of them left their litter behind them when they left, and by 3.15pm the square was already sprinkled with litter.

M & S archive opens on former Grammar School site

An archive containing artifacts accumulated by Marks and Spencer over many years has opened on the former Leeds Grammar School site in Little Woodhouse. Although the site is within the Moorland Road Conservation Area, the building does not reflect the style of nearby listed buildings and neighbouring Victorian architecture.
